This is a CarMax retail store where customers or visitors can readily visit the site. The tank is located below ground, however, so there is not much rainwater harvesting equipment visible.

Purpose of catchment: 100% Landscape Irrigation

This SkyHarvester system was designed to provide storage for approximately 3 irrigation cycles or one week of standard water usage for irrigation. The original plans specified a concrete cistern. The SkyHarvester engineers were able to provide twice the capacity at half the price by proposing a composite tank buried beneath the parking lot. The composite tank provides 20,000 gallons of storage, allowing the system to collect approximately 500,000 gallons of water per year. The harvested rainwater supplements half of CarMax’s total landscape irrigation needs, depending on the timing and quantity of rain events.

Delivery and treatment (if any): Watertronics pump station with 100 micron automatic filtration for drip irrigation. 7.5 horsepower pump, 70 gallons per minute at 80 psi
