Hydro Catchment Systems

Rainwater collection from this custom residence was of paramount importance to the owner and architect. The structure was designed with a 3,390 square foot mono-sloped roof. A custom 8” gutter was installed with a screen cover. In Austin, Texas this will generate over 40,000 gallons of rainwater per year, or approximately 1,270 gallons for each inch of rain.

A low maintenance vortex filter delivers clean rainwater into the first tank which has an overflow system. Upon very intense storm events, an emergency 3” overflow PVC pipe will provide extra relief to a full system.

Storage is handled by two 2500 gallon galvanized cisterns fabricated in San Marcos, Texas. They are connected for overflow at the top and for equalizing after a rain at the bottom. The non-potable water is delivered throughout the home site by a 1 HP on-demand pump.

Conveyance: An 8” gutter with a screen cover and a 6” downspout to vortex filter

Storage: Twin 2500 gallon galvanized cisterns

Delivery and treatment (if any): 1 HP pump
