Rainwater Collection Solutions, Inc installed a residential rainwater harvesting system in Atlanta in 2008 to maintain the health of the client's landscape investment and to supplement natural rainfall during dry periods. The other motivation was to have control over outdoor water use and not be subject to outdoor watering restrictions. The rainwater collection system has a capacity of 3,500 gallons. Three rainwater pillows are daisy chained together in the crawl space under the house utilizing wasted space. The custom filter is designed to collect 100% of the water.
The irrigation manifold installed includes three zones controlled by an irrigation clock. One zone is the sprinkler irrigation system for the front lawn. The second zone is for the back lawn and will be connected to a sub-surface turf irrigation system. The last zone is adapted to hose use for washing cars, dirt bikes, and some container irrigation. The control panel is located at the entrance to the crawl space and includes an irrigation clock, supplemental electrical outlet, pump shut off, relay switch, and a fine screen filter. All parts are labeled to provide easy use to the homeowner and future homeowners.
The irrigation pump was wired to a dedicated electrical line from the breaker box as recommended by the manufacture. All other code requirements were considered.
This rainwater irrigation system is custom designed to provide all present water needs as well as lending itself to further expansion and or adaptations. Special features include hidden horizontal water storage in a crawl space, which is a low relative cost compared to volume. Average annual rainfall for the area is 50 inches. Site visits are available by appointment only. For more information, contact Rainwater Collection Solutions.
