Rooftop coatings

Hi-

I am building a new residential home that will have a concrete roof to be used to collect rainwater for a potable cistern. I am looking for vendor/product recommendations for rooftop coatings from anyone who has done something similar or with experience with good performing products. The roof will be ~1700ft2, slight pitch and will also contain solar pool heating panels, a solar hot water panel and PV panels, all of which will get tapcon'd to the concrete roof deck.

Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

John

While we await post from those with first-hand information about roof coatings and potable rainwater harvesting, you may find the following information helpful, provided by ARCSA's Executive Director, Heather Kinkade and my own internet research.

Of course any discussion of components for a rainwater harvesting system that will be used for potable purposes should start with those approved by the National Sanitation Foundation, Protocol 151. This link leads to the current list.

This link is to Brad Lancaster's website - Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond - in which he lists potable-quality coatings.

Consult the attached research paper on the effects of roofing material on water quality.

National Coatings Corporation newsletter.
